               Asharqia Chamber launches next Wednesday, April 19th, in the presence of many experts in corporate governance and transformation in family business. The event will be held under the patronage of the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, in cooperation with INSEAD. Under the title (Secrets of the success of the board of directors), in an attempt to reveal the challenges faced by family businesses and obstacles in the way of growth and sustainability.
    Abdulrahman bin Saleh Al Ataishan, Chairman of Asharqia Chamber, said that the forum highlights, through four consecutive sessions and through a number of important topics in governance issues, the most important challenges facing the implementation of institutionalization procedures within family businesses such as decision making in the board of directors, and the ways to achieve diversity and balance of power within the boards of directors, not to mention planning for the succession of generations and the importance of attracting expertise, as well as governance and its expansion and the approval of its procedures in the Middle East.
    Al Atishan explained that the forum is a completion to the last year presentation of the transformation of family businesses into a contribution. He pointed to the importance of the Chamber attention and the movement it has generated in terms of initiatives, programs or studies and reports. The national economy and its strong presence that has strong indications of the strength of the national economy, expressing optimism about the breadth of the private sector in general and family businesses in particular in the national economy, especially in light of the national will to activate the system of economic diversification and not depending on oil as the essential source of the national income.
    He stressed that family businesses are an important contributor and a major driver in the various economies of the world. According to him, it is not very different in the national economy. Family businesses occupy the largest portion of the national economy and are prone to disturbances and divisions, The first generation, which requires the owners to take in the  transformation and governance, pointing that the recent times have witnessed effective developments in the  application in institutions, both at the government level and the level of family business owners.
    For his part, the Secretary General of Asharqia Chamber, Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al Wabel, said that Asharqia Chamber aims by this forum and other activities related to governance and the transformation of family companies by its contribution to the concept of "business sustainability" is the dominating concept in the Saudi economic environment. That the introduction of governance procedures within the systems of institutions and joining the locomotive of transformation always leads to the desired sustainability.
    Al Wabel explained that the forum is trying through 10 experts and more in the field of governance and transformation of family business, to discuss a list of issues and challenges facing the achievement of sustainability goals by focusing on a number of topics that are considered as obstacles to family businesses , urging the different business owners to attend and benefit from the experiences.

      The Chamber launched last year, 2016 transforming a family business to a stock forum, which concluded to improve the steps on how to transform family entities to stocks, because of its positive impact on the continuity of the family business and the system of the national economy as a whole, while this year forum discussing, according to chairman of Asharqia Chamber, Abdulrahman bin Saleh Al Ataishan, a range of topics of importance the issue of governance and institutionalization of family businesses, most notably the decision, and ways to achieve diversity and balance between all the powers inside it, as well as discussing the major challenges facing the application of family businesses in the field of ​​ governance procedures, and other issues related to institutionalization and applications within the family business.
      Al Ataishan, said that this year Forum comes as a continuation of what was stated last year about the transformation of the family business, noting that as a message the Chamber is keen to  convey to businessmen and owners of family businesses of the importance of the application of the rules and procedures of good governance, in addition to providing them with successful experiences in the application of corporate governance procedures and generational succession in family businesses around the world, and also make them aware of the challenges they may face in the future.
      Al Ataishan, said that governance is an essential basis in achieving a safe transformation, noting how vital the subject of the forum in the internationally and locally, stressing that the local family business occupies a big place of ​​the national economy, they are an important channel for attracting local and foreign investments, and attracting the national workforce, which according Al Ataishan is enhancing its position in the national economy.
      Al Ataishan, said that the best solution to the sustainability of the family business, lies in the application of good governance procedures, which depends in large part on education and awareness, noting the attention given by the Chamber of interest in this aspect, with the launch  of the bulletin «family», launched by the Chamber represented by Media Department, every three months in order to shed light on the family business sector locally, regionally and internationally.
